Volunteer

Volunteer Bethany for Children & Families is a community organization that works together to respond to the critical needs of children and families. Volunteers are needed to help the agency continue its mission by neighbors helping neighbors, just like you.

Volunteer Opportunities

Agency Volunteer Coordinator
An individual will be responsible for the coordination of all interested volunteers. Duties will include scheduling individuals and assigning them to certain tasks, making sure all background checks have been completed, following up with volunteer inquiries, coordinating with program supervisors and staff to assist with their need for volunteers, and possible recruitment of volunteers.

Bulk mailing assistance
The Buzz @ Bethany is a bi-monthly publication informing donors about Bethany's news and events. Two or three volunteers are needed every other month for an hour to tab and organize the mailing in preparation for delivery to the post office.

Bulk pick-up of donated furniture
Bethany has partnered with area colleges whose students donate their gently used college dormitory furniture at the end of the semester (May and December). Volunteers are needed for heavy lifting and transporting of these items for families in need of bunk beds, futons, small refrigerators, etc.

In-Kind Donations Coordinator
Bethany for Children & Families relies on the community for in-kind donations of gently used furniture, appliances, and other household items. A volunteer is needed to coordinate the pick-up and delivery of these items with the donor and the recipient.

Safe Connections
This program provides a neutral exchange site with a volunteer who is the "go-between" from one parent to another. This service is necessary for both the parent and the child to form relational bonds which can be lost in a custody battle. A volunteer walks the child from one parent to another at different time intervals so parents do not have contact with each other. Exchanges take place every other week at 5:45 p.m. on Friday and 4:45 p.m. on Sunday - both for approximately one hour. For more information on Safe Connections, click here.

Washing visiting room toys
Bethany strives to keep its facilities clean and tidy in order to reduce the risk of illnesses. Volunteers are needed for one hour twice a month to wash the visiting room toys and play therapy toys.

On Saturday, May 2, 2009, seven seniors from Assumption High School gathered in the lobby area of the Moline office at Bethany for Children & Families, with paint brushes in hand.  Students chose to volunteer their painting services after touring the agency as part of their search for a community service project.  It took one full day to apply two coats of paint onto the large walls of the Bethany entrance, a day when most seniors would be by the pool or out celebrating at graduation parties.  The agency appreciates those students for taking time out of their busy schedules and assisting Bethany in making the Moline office entryway a brighter place!  To read the thank you letter from the students, click here
