gradient green line Maggie’s Fund for Children in Need (Maggie’s Fund) Maggies Fund

Established in 2005, following the unexpected death of Margaret ‘Maggie’ Steinhauser (1999 – 2005), Maggie’s Fund supports a variety of programs that nurture children and strengthen families throughout our community. Bethany for Children & Families administers Maggie’s Fund.

BACK TO SCHOOL
Conducted in the late summer, the Back to School appeal supports school-based programs designed to help children acquire the skills they will need to be successful at home, in school, and in the community.
Phoenix Day Treatment combines special education, social work, and therapeutic recreation services designed to keep students at home, out of institutions.
Therapeutic Recreation gives behavior-disordered students individualized behavior plans that will enable them to live, learn, and play successfully with others.
Community services offer a variety of educational and character-building services for young people from elementary school through college ages.

RED STOCKING
Children in all Bethany 's services benefit from the support this mail appeal brings at the Christmas holiday season. Proceeds are used in Bethany programs where the need is greatest.

FRIENDS OF BETHANY
This general way of giving lets you decide whether to support a specific program, a family of services such as prevention or placement services, or general Bethany services where the need is greatest.

GIFTS OF A LIFETIME
Looking for a way to provide a living tribute to one who meant a great deal to you and who has died? Memorial gifts perpetuate their legacy by supporting services for children. Honor gifts offer appreciation for a special wedding anniversary, birthday, or other special occasion.

PLANNED GIFTS
Bequest-- made through your will, it helps Bethany continue work that was important to you during your lifetime. We usually restrict bequests to our Endowment fund; the principal is untouched and only earnings are spent. You may designate your bequests to a specific service or a family of services if you prefer.

Bequest language is simple: "I give to Bethany for Children & Families, an Illinois nonprofit corporation, at 1830 6th Avenue, Moline, IL 61265, the sum of ______ dollars ($_____), or _____ % of my residuary estate, or _________________ property (describe same), for its general use and purpose."

Charitable Gift Annuity-is a legal contract between the donor and Bethany through which the donor exchanges cash stocks, or other assets for an agreed-upon income for life.

Charitable remainder trust-used by donors to transfer assets to a trust, which then goes to Bethany after the death of the last beneficiary. You retain a fixed or variable income for life.

The unitrust pays a variable rate of return

The annuity trust pays a fixed rate of return.

Life Insurance-two types of life insurance policy gifts are possible:
Existing policy-You can name Bethany as the beneficiary. The estate would receive a deduction for the face value of the policy; there is no lifetime deduction to the donor. If you transfer ownership of the policy to Bethany, you receive a tax deduction approximately equal to the policy's cash surrender value.

New policy-You take out on a policy on your life and transfer ownership to Bethany. You pay the premium amount annually to Bethany. You receive a tax deduction for the annual premium payments. Bethany is the owner and beneficiary of the policy.

HELPING HANDS
This program makes it possible for you to help children by making a gift to Bethany each month. You may choose the method that is most convenient for you. Look over the choices below. Let us know which you prefer, and we’ll help you get started.

You decide when to stop making gifts, just as you decide when to start. We will not send additional requests for help. We will keep you informed about our good work and the ways in which we help children.

I want to help Bethany for Children & Families nurture children, and strengthen families and our community!
